Project Run and Play: Season 13 Week 2

The theme for Week two on Project Run and Play was the Pantone 2017 color of the year, Greenery. And it lined up, intentionally or unintentionally, with St. Patrick’s Day! Being a Kansas girl, I channeled my inner Emerald City and got super excited for this look!

I found this amAzing textured green silk at Fabricland last spring and I’ve been waiting for the perfect project for it. I used the Genevieve dress from Violette Field Threads, just left the bodice flounce off and added those cute little bows to the elbows.

It feels so fancy, but it is machine washable! I should have known that at $7 a meter I wasn’t getting real silk. Oh well, if it was real, I would never have used it for my almost three year old, that’s for sure!

I am one of those weird people who hate buttons. I would so much rather put in a zipper and be done with it than sew a bunch of buttons and button holes. you know what it is. it’s the stray threads that NEVER stay clipped! I am forever trimming button hole threads until the whole thing unravels. *sigh* But I did not have a green zipper on hand, and taking three kids under 5 to the fabric store is not for the faint of heart. (Especially to Fabricland; those ladies do NOT like children in their store. They tell me so. Every. Time.) So I turned to my new favorite fastener, Kam Snaps! I ordered this kit off Amazon and I’m so in love. These matched the silk so perfectly, you barely even know they’re there!

For the front, I really wanted to find some big green sequins, you know the ones that are the size of quarters, but alas, only people in Thailand sell those on Etsy. There is no way those are getting here until at least May. So I used temporary fabric glue to stick these plastic jewels on as a placeholder until my goodies arrive.

Now it’s off to enjoy the last few hours of daylight on St Partick’s Day listening to “One Short Day, in the Emerald City” in our pretty green dress!

  1. The fabric and the dress are gorgeous!!! Awesome job!!!
I have to admit, I probably would never shop at a store again if they complained about children. I know some can wreak havoc in a store like that, but I want to encourage the next generation to learn and love sewing.
